What is the difference between a subject pronoun and a object pronoun?

In french were learning how to use pronouns, which I understand. It then asks me to underline the subject pronouns, and put a circle around the object pronoun. Could someone please explain the difference? For example with this sentence: Le tennis? Ils le detestent. What would be the subject and object pronoun? Thanks!
