Is it legal to go hunting for alligators in the southern states of the U.S.A.?

In Florida, it is legal to hunt gators year round BUT, it is NOT legal to molest a gator in any manner, unless you are lucky enough to acquire a gator hunting permit ( they are sold by a lottery system ). Then you receive a certain number of tags, that only YOU can use, with 1 exception, if someone else uses your tag, you would be required to be present,when the gator was caught
